Here at Carolina Coffee Company, our mission is simple: to craft-roast and help you brew the best tasting coffee you've ever made.
However, in order to find your perfect cup of coffee, it's helpful to experiment with different coffees, brewing methods, and ways of preparing your coffee to learn what you enjoy most. After all, only you are the expert in what you like!
If you typically enjoy milk in your coffee, one of the easiest ways to elevate your next cup is by frothing your milk before pouring it in. Frothed milk adds a rich, velvety texture that results in a creamy, dessert-like cup of coffee similar to a classic French café au lait. You can also try frothed milk in tea, hot chocolate, or even matcha for a creamy twist!
Now here's the good news: frothers are an inexpensive investment, typically costing $30 to $95, depending on if you get a handheld or automatic one, and they will serve you well for years.
While there are many options available, we've personally found that nothing beats the versatility of the Capresso Froth TS.
This machine froths milk to the perfect consistency every time, whether you're making a rich cappuccino, a smooth hot chocolate, or even a refreshing iced drink.
If you love crafting coffeehouse-quality drinks at home, this is the frother for you.
How To Froth Milk
1. Select your milk
It's important to note that certain types of milk will froth better than others. When it comes to alternative and plant-based milks, "barista" milks will froth better than their counterparts.
Types of milk that froth well include:
- Whole Milk
- 2% Milk
- Skim Milk
- Soy Milk
- Oat Milk
- Almond Milk: Froths best at room temperature
- Coconut Milk: If using canned coconut milk, you may need to add water to get it to froth
Types of milk that do not froth well include:
- Cashew Milk
- Hemp Milk: While some brands of hemp milk may froth, generally they do not. Make sure to heat hemp milk before adding to your coffee to avoid curdling.
- Rice Milk: Due to it's low fat content, rice milk will not froth.
- Macadamia Milk
2. Heat the milk
Using a microwave or a saucepan, heat your milk until hot but not boiling. For a single serving of milk for your coffee, usually 25-30 seconds in the microwave will do. Be careful when removing from the microwave, as your cup/glass may be hot.
Skip this step if you are not using a handheld frother, since automatic frothers will typically heat the milk for you.
3. Froth the milk
If using a handheld frother, insert your frother into the milk. Once your frother is fully submerged, turn it on and move it around gently, allowing the milk to bubble and foam. until it has doubled in volume, about 30-45 seconds. Be careful not to froth for too long, as the milk can become too thick and lose its silky texture.
If using an automatic frother, refer to the product manual for instructions. Most automatic frothers require only the push of a button.
4. Pour the milk
Once your frothed milk is ready, pour your desired ratio of milk into your coffee or espresso, then spooning the foam onto the top of your drink.
You can also try sprinkling a dash of cinnamon over the top of the milk foam for a nice finishing touch!
Once you've given frothed milk a shot, you'll realize you're capable of making barista-level coffee right in the comfort of your own home!
